TOP 10 – Ütia de Börz mountain hut

The 10 best experiences not to be missed at Passo delle Erbe

Let us give you a short list of must-see attractions and activities in the vicinity of the pass and of the Ütia de Börz mountain hut: hiking itineraries, sunrise and sunset from the top of a Dolomites mountain peak, moonlight walks, sledding, Ladin culture and the tasty dishes of the traditional cuisine of South Tyrol.

The most famous day hike: the Roda de Pütia

The circular hike around the Sass de Pütia is the most renowned hike in the Passo delle Erbe area. It is an easy and pleasant 4-5 hours ring walk around the Sass de Putia. The itinerary starts right from the mountain hut. It is possible to stop for lunch at the Ütia Vaciara or at the Rifugio Genova mountain hut.

Excursion and visit to the Lungiarü valley

This is another stunning panoramic day hike starting at Passo delle Erbe. The first section is the same as in the Roda de Pütia up to the Forcela de Pütia. Proceed to Rifugio Genova and over the Cresta de Juac, then descend to the Medalges meadows. After a delicious lunch at the Ütia Ciampcios mountain hut we finally reach the village of Lungiarü. Here we can finish our excursion by taking the bus back to Passo delle Erbe or we can add a visit to the wonderful Val di Morins and the Viles of Seres and Miscí.

Bike tour to Val di Funes and Valle Isarco

This demanding and unforgettable road bike itinerary is 79 km long and takes us through the magnificent Val di Funes and Valle Isarco. Funes is renowned for the iconic church of San Giovanni in Ranui and the breathtaking view of the Odle peaks. Keep cycling towards Velturno and then on the road that dominates over Valle Isarco to Bressanone. Proceed uphill to Luson and then back to Passo delle Erbe.

Monte Muro: high altitude winter hiking

This excursion can be easily done in the summer but it is far more fascinating in the winter. Walk on the groomed trail from the Ütia de Börz mountain hut to the Monte Muro mountain hut, from where we can walk or sled back to Passo delle Erbe. Snow-shoes or touring skis are needed for a further ascent to the peak of Monte Muro.

Ladin culture at the Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor

Learn about the people inhabiting the Dolomites since 2 millennia. The Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor in San Martino in Badia illustrates the history, the language and the traditions of the Ladin people of Val Badia. The museum boasts a unique setting: a castle dating back at least to 1230.

Sunrise from the Sass de Putia peak

The unforgettable view of the sunrise from the top of the Sass de Putia (2.875 m a.s.l.) is one of the locals' most beloved hidden-gems. The night ascent is not easy and should not be confronted lightly or without experience and the right equipment. The most experienced climbers can also attempt the ascent to the fore-summit - the Picia Pütia - in the winter.

Adrenaline-packed sled runs in the woods

A spectacular 2,6 km long toboggan run starts at a short distance from the Ütia de Börz mountain hut. The joy of high-speed tobogganing through the woods is particularly popular with children and teenagers.

Unforgettable evenings at Passo delle Erbe

What about a delicious dinner of typical South Tyrol dishes in our restaurant? Or a romantic walk under the moonlight or the thousands of stars of the Dolomites skies? Or a drink in good company around the bonfire? Passo delle Erbe offers unique experiences in the evening as well.

Thrilling mountain bike itineraries

A challenging and spectacular mountain bike or e-bike itinerary. From Passo delle Erbe we descend to Val di Funes and then proceed uphill to the foot of the iconic Odle peaks, through Zanser Alm, Gampenalm and finally Rifugio Genova. Then we cycle through the Cialneur and Vaciara meadows along the Roda de Pütia trail until we get back to the Ütia de Börz mountain hut. Be careful: some sections of the route are quite steep.

Cross-country skiing and alpine skiing at Börz

The Passo delle Erbe area is host to a wonderful cross-country skiing trail leading through the woods and meadows surrounding the Ütia de Börz mountain hut. If you prefer alpine skiing instead, there is a lift in the nearby Antermoia or the ski areas of Plan de Corones, Alta Badia and Plose a little further.
