Longiarù: the Alpine Village

Longiarù: the Alpine Village

Where the mountains are a way of life

Hidden among the folds of the Ladin Dolomites, Longiarù (Lungiarü in Ladin) seems like a place out of time. Wooden houses, traditional farmsteads, deep silences, and majestic mountains rising above the rooftops: a village that preserves its authenticity intact. But Longiarù is much more than a picturesque village: it is one of the few Alpine Villages in Italy, a special recognition that rewards the meeting of tradition, nature, and sustainable mountaineering.

What it means to be an “Alpine Village”

The Bergsteigerdörfer – Alpine Villages initiative was born in Austria and today also includes locations in Italy, Slovenia, and Germany. Promoted by the Austrian Alpine Club and supported by the CAI, it aims to enhance small Alpine villages that live mountaineering in an authentic, responsible, and environmentally respectful way.

An Alpine Village:

- is immersed in nature and far from mass tourism;

- promotes slow, conscious, and sustainable tourism;

values local cultural identity, farming, and Alpine traditions;

 - is a starting point for hikes, climbs, and classic mountaineering routes;

- protects the territory through careful management of the landscape and resources.

Longiarù perfectly embodies these values: here, the mountains are not a spectacle, but part of everyday life.

Why visit Longiarù

Longiarù is an extraordinary destination: no ski lifts, no shops, no crowds. People come here to rediscover the meaning of authentic mountain life, full of silence, glances upwards, and dialogue with nature and the locals.

The village is perfect in every season.

In summer, long days among meadows and forests allow visitors to enjoy panoramic hikes in the Ladin Dolomites. Alpine flora and fauna can be observed at their best, and the views from the mountain huts take your breath away.

In winter, Longiarù transforms into a kingdom of silence and snow: farmsteads and rooftops are covered in white, forests become soft and muffled, and trails invite snowshoeing through pristine valleys. Ski mountaineering allows you to explore panoramic peaks and hidden valleys, far from crowded slopes, living authentic experiences in direct contact with nature. Winter here means slowing down, breathing pure air, admiring sunsets over snow-covered Dolomites, and rediscovering the pleasure of silence and contemplation.

Longiarù is a place where mountaineering is not just an activity, but a lifestyle, a deep connection with the mountains, tradition, and sustainability. For those staying at Ütia de Börz, Longiarù is reachable in just 30 minutes by car, perfect for a day trip immersed in the mountains.
